Green Lantern and his corps

by JamesCHollywood on Feb 1, 2008

I find it interesting that there's six volumes of Green Lantern and only four for the Flash in the Silver Age archives. These two were the most popular alternatives to Batman and Superman and Wonder Woman but unique in their own ways. This volume hardly has Carol Ferris, his boss and love interest in at all. She figures quite prominently in the first volume but merely shows up at the end of most of these stories. What's here instead is a good amount of the Green Lantern Corps and the Guardians. There's Green Lanterns of different galazies and Hal Jordon even gets a separate story line in the future. Also, like Lex Luthor or the Joker, Green Lantern is given an arch enemy, a fallen Green Lantern by the name of Sinestro. Modern readers may complain that Sinestro's skin color is darker than Jordan's but his race is never given and he's supposed to be from outer space, anyway. There is an Eskimo with the unfortunate man of Pieface, also referred to a grease monkey. But he's protrayed favorably and even gets married. This volume ends with the first teaming of Green Lantern and the Flash, having their own separate bits and having the unusual distintions of being quite different from the golden age counter parts. Most of the stories here are quite good. We even get to meet Hal Jordon's brothers.
