Sinkankas was a self taught geologist and one of the early authors on lapidary arts and gem cutting. Gemstones of North America has a wealth of information about minerals and gemstones and is useful for a lapidary artist's library collection.
Though this work is dated it includes very thorough data on the gemstones it covers.

An intensense, through, 675 pages of the form and element of minnerals, and where they can be found. This isn't a picture book, but your mind will be able to identify matter and pictures and put words to what was once just called "pretty".
