She was the proponent of a new moral philosophy - an ethic of rational self-interest - that stands in sharp opposition to the ethics of altruism and self-sacrifice. The fundamentals of this new morality are set forth in this book. The author also wrote "The Virtue of Selfishness", "Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal" and "Night of 16th January".Hide synopsis

With the dust jacket. Front blank lacking, contents faintly toned. An excellent copy in the lightly rubbed jacket with a small chip from the head of the toned spine panel. Description:The philosophy of Ayn Rand. Octavo. Original black boards,...The philosophy of Ayn Rand. Octavo. Original black boards, titles to spine gilt, author's initials blocked to upper board in blind. With the dust jacket. Production flaw affecting the first 15 leaves, with text block not centred and 4 leaves short at fore-edge, but no text loss (doubtless the reason this copy was used for presentation). Light browning to half-title as usual, spine a little faded in the tanned and lightly nicked dust jacket, a very good copy. First edition, first printing. With the author's signed presentation inscription to the half-title, "To Jean and Herbert Cornuelle-cordially-Ayn Rand February 23 1961." Herbert C. Cornuelle (1920–1996) was a business and community leader in Hawaii and the youngest man to become president of the Dole Company; he was president of the Volker Fund, an endowment that supported the academic careers of both Mises and Hayek, and a good friend of Rand's.
