Translated from the French by James Mortimer. The account by Captain Albert Dreyfus, the victim of The Dreyfus Affair, who relates the particulars of his arrest, imprisonment, and life on Devil's Island, and his subsequent liberation thanks to author Emile Zola. Dreyfus was a French army officer of Jewish blood, who was imprisoned for treason based upon papers forged by Major Esterhazy and Lieut. Col. Henry. He was tried a second time in Rennes in 1899 and his original conviction was eventually set aside and he was finally restored to full rank in the army and awarded the Légion d'Honneur. SR14.
