Gluck's first book of poetry, encouraged by grant from the Rockefeller Foundation. Glück was named the 12th U.S. Poet Laureate in 2003. Further honors include the Pulitzer and Bollingen Prizes, the Lannan Literary Award for Poetry and the Wallace Stevens Award. Her work is often refered as "bleak, " "dark, " spare" and noted for its technical precision, sensitivity, and insight into personal conflict and tragedy. This edition, published after the American edition, was not for sale in the U.S. for copyright reasons.
