The author of more than twenty volumes of poetry, each with a physiognomy of its own, he has also written fiction and criticism. Wide literary culture and immaculate technique distinguish his translations from the French, Spanish, and occasionally – American. His critical essays have furnished a timely and intelligent commentary on four decades of international poetry. Krolow live and works in Darmstadt, West Germany. His most recent collection of poems is SCHONEN DANK UND VORUBER (1984). ON ACCOUNT OF: SELECTED POEMS includes an introduction by the distinguished critic, Ingo Seidler, who teaches German and Comparative Literature at the University of Michigan. He has written widely on modern literature and has translated poetry into German and English. Stuart Friebert translated with Dana Habova, Miroslav Holub's SAGITTAL SECTION, the third volume in the Series. He is the translator with David Walker and David Young, of Gunter Eich's VALUABLE NAIL, the fifth volume in this Series. He has also published, with Vinio Rossi, Giovanni Raboni's THE COLDEST YEAR OF GRACE: SELECTE DPEOMS. His own collections of poetry include UNCERTAIN HEALTH, UP IN BED and DREAMING OF FLOODS.
