Justine is a baffling, absorbing whirlwind of a book. It sometimes seems as if it were only half thought out;a sketch or outline but this only adds to the allure of the book. After reading, no not reading, experiencing Justine, you want to know more-more about her, Alexandria and the whole area. Balthazar is not as poetic but so much more is expanded upon. It is as if in Justine you are able to see and smell a beautiful grove of fig trees and Balthazar you indulge in their sweet secrets.
