This is a well-written invitation to public officials and organization managers to learn about the practice of "mindfulness". Congressman Ryan used well-educated language to offer blue-collar Youngstown examples of how this practice applies what pre- World War II generations called "thoughtfulness" to problems of individuals relating to other individuals and to organizational structures and demands. This book references many sources for instruction in the practice, and describes current programs successfully applying the practice in the military, health, education, and social service professions, as a practice benefiting the professional and as a system for improving the delivery of service to the consumer of those services. This is a compelling introduction for those who have not yet begun the practice.
