The jacket has a few very tiny chips at the spine tips. It is a gray jacket printed in brown, and the spine is sunned, also top front panel of the jacket toned. Very clean inside and out. A former owner name on the inside of the front cover (hidden by the jacket panel) and a short pencilled note on the inside of the back cover stating the book was purchased at the University of Chicago on January 4, 1950 for $5.00. The text pages are completely clean and have not started to tan. Altogether a superior copy of the first edition of this important book. The book's subtitle is 'A Social History of the Public Library Movement in New England from 1629 to 1855'. 9" high X 6" wide, 308 pages. Scarce.
