Or so terrifying. Dallas, 11/22/63: Three shots ring out. President John F. Kennedy is dead. Life can turn on a dime--or stumble into the extraordinary, as it does for Jake Epping, a high school English teacher in a Maine town. While grading essays by his GED students, Jake reads a gruesome, enthralling piece penned by janitor Harry Dunning: fifty years ago, Harry somehow survived his father's sledgehammer slaughter of his entire family. Jake is blown away...but an even more bizarre secret comes to light when Jake's friend Al, owner of the local diner, enlists Jake to take over the mission that has become his obsession--to prevent the Kennedy assassination. How? By stepping through a portal in the diner's storeroom, and into the era of Ike and Elvis, of big American cars, sock hops, and cigarette smoke... Finding himself in warmhearted Jodie, Texas, Jake begins a new life. But all turns in the road lead to a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald. The course of history is about to be rewritten...and become heart-stoppingly suspenseful.Read Less

Very Good + in N-Fine jacket. Signed by Author A square solid tight carefully read copy. This copy has some light board edgewear, a light corner bump, some light soil to the edges of the text block, the text block is slightly concave at the top of the spine. The priced jacket has some light rubbing wear, some light edgewear. This copy includes a copy of my ticket for a Stephen King speaking event held in the North Dallas area on 11-11-11 and several rather amateurish photos from the event taken by me. The ticket was one of 2000 purchased in advance while the book was picked up at the speaking event. This was not a pure signing event. King actually signed only 250 books which were mixed with another 1750 books and handed out randomly when the event ended. This book has been signed only. This copy has been signed on the title page which is actually bound into the book. The main thing that distinguishes this copy and a " signed limited ", in addition to the above is that the author actually touched this book. In the case of a " signed limited " all he touched was the limitation page which normally is tipped into the actual book at a later date. Also included with this copy are parts of the coverage of the assassination by the Denton Record-Chronicle, 11/24/63 up to and including 11/26/63. Denton is a town located about 50 miles north of Dallas. Newspapers are NOT copies, are browned, some foxing, showing their nearly 50 year age. Also included is a copy of the November 29, 1963 Kennedy Commemorative issue from Life magazine. This item also is not a copy, the real thing that shows signs of age and wear including a mailing label.

Jake Epping is a thirty-five year-old high school English teacher in Lisbon Falls, Maine, who makes extra money teaching adults in the GED program. He enlists Jake on an insane-and insanely piossible-mission to try to prevent the Kennedy assassination. So begins Jake's new life as George Amberson and his new world of Elvis and JFK, of big American cars and sock hops, of a troubled loner named Lee Harvey Oswald and a beautiful high school librarian named Sadie Dunhill, who becomes the love of Jake's life-a life that trangresses all the normal rules of time. I had never read anything by Stephen King, though I had seen movie adaptations of a few of his shorter works and one novel (The Stand). I'm just not into the horror genre, yet King himself has said that he doesn't consider himself a strictly horror writer. Well, this book definitely proves that contention. It is long (over 800 pages) and involved, but it is so compelling that you probably won't even notice its length. I was just 17 when JFK was killed, and like other baby-boomers, I remember exactly where I was when I heard the news, and how I wished it was a lie, and how my life changed at that moment. I am also a science fiction fan, and have read and seen my share of time travel stories, where characters go back in time to try to change the past or prevent it from being changed. 11/22/63 combines the event that occurred on that day in November of 1963 with a most unusual time travel device and wraps it in a very real story about very believable people. It is a fantastic story that you will most definitely enjoy.

ALMOST a great King novel...
I enjoyed 11/22/63, I think the premise is great, and 90% of the storyline is genuis. Obviously, as the dust jacket gives away it's about someone given the ability to change the past and what reprucussions it may have on the future, so I'm not giving anything away. But I was somewhat let down by HOW that "butterfly effect" was ultimately depicted in this story. The last 10% doesn't live up to the promise of the build up... There were SO many more interesting possibilities that could have been used, just along the political line, that would have been devestating that what King chose just seems way too "out there" - almost like it was chosen just as a "they'll never see this coming because it has no place in this story" way. Again, I liked 90% of the book and have recommended it to friends, I was just disappointed at the climax.
