a good one from neal

in true stephenson fashion, it's disjoint, full of funky futuristic ideas, and manages to keep the reader interested. occasionally it's a little indulgent, especially with the whole fairy tale angle and the trip through turing's castle (or maybe only for a comp sci major like me), but we don't mind. now i've read everything stephenson's written, and he remains one of my favorite authors.

Required Reading for the Nano Age

by StephKaye on Apr 3, 2007

This amazing novel addresses the potential uses and problems of rapidly advancing nanotechnology, as well as molding a heroine for the disenfranchised. A young girl from the ghetto discovers a primer, operated by the magic of nanotechnology, designed to train a girl from an elite community in logic and leadership. Stephenson, a master of historical fiction as well, predicts the future of gated housing developments: enclaves, private mini-countries with their own law. The poor girl's destiny is riveting, as is the world he creates.
