Crude, sophmoric humor

by JimIgnatowski on Mar 30, 2009

Dan Jenkins obviously has some literary talent but his sense of humor seems stuck in the eighth grade. I understand the book was written before politically correct speech came in vogue. But even in the 1980's, I think I would have been offended by such humor. Typical of a lot of Jenkins's work, Fort Worth, TX is again the center of his universe. Yes, I know Hogan and Nelson came from there but people like Jones, Hagen, Sarazen, Palmer, Nicklaus and Woods did not. Moreover, I suspect Hogan and Nelson would have been offended by such prose. Jenkins is one reason I am not renewing my subscription to Golf Digest. If you want good golf fiction, try Troon McAllister's trilogy or "Missing Links" by Rick Reilly.
