Thank you, Sue Monk Kidd!

by Julia W on May 10, 2012

I have been a fan of Sue Monk Kidd's since high school when I read The Secret Life of Bees, but I had not read any nonfiction of hers until I ordered this book on a whim. What a blessing! This book is so FULL of beauty and intuition and wisdom, I could hardly put it down. It honestly has enhanced my life since the day I started reading it. Sue talks about having a "feminine critique" at all times, and doing this has made me so much aware of the patriarchy in every day life, but this awareness is leading to an attitude that this is not how it is supposed to be and I do not have to fit within the patriarchal structure that has been in place long before I was born, but that I did not choose to be part of. So...to sum up, if you are a woman and you know you are (or even think you might be) much more powerful than you are lead to believe by society, the media, government, etc. then you should read this book! I recommend it constantly to people at school and in random conversation.

Well Written, But...

by Bevsmom on Oct 22, 2009

If this was helpful to the author, and to others, that's great. I was disappointed in her conclusions -- I arrived at different ones as I went through a similar process. The book was well written, however.

A woman's journey to herself

by glendia on Jan 8, 2009

This was an awesome book! It is a wonderful story of a woman's journey to finding herself in a male dominated world. It brings you back to understanding the female's role with creation, God, and worship. Great read for anyone looking to understand their feminine side of things.

Eye catching!

by Booksryourfriend on Nov 13, 2008

A must read for any woman searching for an awakening to her Christian faith. This book is deals specificaly with issues of the femine identity and how to embrace that identity. Kidd through her struggles, walks the reader to a spiritual wholeness.

Finding the feminine divine

by ellicat on Apr 16, 2008

This book is an inspiration to those women on a spiritual path that are finding patriarchal belief systems do not serve them as well. It is her story of finding the Goddess in the company of similarly believing women, in ritual, in nature, in seeing the divine in all
