Wanting to conect with other people on a deeper level, an emotional and vunerable one, is why I read this book. The how to's are plainly spelled out along with the reasons and rewards of being close with people in your life. Relationships are based and formed on many plains and for many more reasons and what each person gives and takes within that relationship helps to mold the stability and quality of that relationship. The opinion one has regarding themself is a major factor in how they develop relationships and to what extent those in their circle "know" them. I would definitely recommend as a prelude to this book, the Dance of Anger, which I have also read as it gives clear meaning to why we act the way we do with certain people at different levels and also the underlying reasons where the emotions come from and how to break the cycle of defending ourself and being a victim or blaming others and to take responsibility for the only part we can in a relationship - how we ourselves act and react to others.
