In North America the major surviving centres are California and Boston. And Boston is ravaged by a terrible plague with the only serum in California, three thousand miles of radioactive wasteland away...Hell Tanner is one of the last of the biker Angels, a survivor of the Big Raid that destroyed America, and the only man with even the ghost of a chance of making the nightmare journey through Damnation Alley.Hide synopsis

Putnam's Sons, 1969 hardback in dustjacket + the 1970 1st paperback edition (Berkley Medallion Edition, June, 1970, SBN: 425018466). The paperback has been SIGNED by Roger Zelazny on its title page. Will be up to a future owner whether to keep both books together for the signature, or to cut out the signed title page of the paperback to lay into the hardback. The hardback 1st editon/1st printing book is in Fine condition, bound in red cloth with black spine and front panel printing. It is straight, clean, tight (probably unread) with just a touch of cloth softening from shelving to lower spine end and a couple of 'very' tiny flecks (smaller than a very sharp pencil lead) on the page edges. The Near Fine+ dustjacket is crisp, clean, unfaded and price intact. It has a few tiny edge nicks to flap fold ends and upper spine end. A beautiful copy of a hard to find in decent condition 1st edition sci-fi book. The paperback is straight, clean, tight (for sure unread) with what I think were originally yellow page edges that have faded and toned to be almost light tan like the text block paper-and in very small, almost illegible letters (thin outlines only) 'Jun 22 1970' is stamped on the bottom page edges in light green. Aside from the age toning to the text paper and the almost invisible date-stamping, the paperback is in Near Fine condition-no spine creasing, the cover and pages are good but a bit tanned-looking on the page edges, there's a bit of light toning to spine and back panel of the cover-but the title page is not wrinkled (that was me being careful not to stress the spine when I made the image). This story was made into a movie in 1977. The book version is a hard-hitting post-nuclear apocalyptic story that unfortunately for the movie industry's finances was cut and twisted into an unrecognizable mess-but then Star Wars came out in 1977 also so it might not have mattered anyway.; 8-3/16" x 5-3/4"; 157 pages; Signed by Author.
