This book makes a lot of sence, and gives you an insite into years gone bye.

Good book for your pagan library

by theMacKae on Feb 12, 2011

I found that this book is well researched and written. Scott Cunningham has created the "must have" reference book for every pagan to keep on the bookshelf. Reading it was fun too.

Want to know your herbs?!

by Mallarion on Dec 30, 2010

Very complete and informative. Not enough detail, however, on how to consecrate the herbs (the book just instructs to run the herbs through your fingers and put your intentions in them, but I do believe there must be something else about it). Also, it would be great if, beside their scientific name, each herb could have its name translated into French and Spanish (there is so little literature about the craft in France due to the humanist and scientific theories during the Illustration, that any book on the craft, especially herbs is, if not impossible, really hard to find, and it's all about cooking!). A couple of basic first-aid spells with herbs would also be good (a VERY POWERFUL ONE TO PROTECT ONESELF FROM, AND TO ACTUALLY REJECT HEXES AND EVIL ENTITIES SHOULD BE A MUST). Also, more information about herbs and invoking or ordering entities to leave - dangerous, but UTTERLY necessary: there are too many evil people out there; my family and I have had a wholesome of them launched at us; my father nearly died of an unknown disease, and my family and emotional life is a disaster. We are in real dire straits. I am alone, here in France, I found a practitioner by some sort of miracle and because they are so hard to find, sometimes one just has to draw force and do things by themselves, KNOWING WHAT THEY'RE DOING. That's where you come in. I am not telling a sob story for any other reason than to say, I would like to be able to put my hands on, and make use of ANY GOOD MAGIC to get rid of those nasty things, and if the book is going to mention those herbs, they should be responsible enough to explain the real dangers of this, and, notwithstanding this, how to do it. Put a disclaimer if you must. I'd rather die trying than see my family being destroyed little by little. Finally, more clarity about which herbs are actually used for actual magic, and which are mentioned just as cultural information. Imagine if someone (and they will, I assure you) drinks their basil juice and jumps off the balcony on a broom, they're not gonna be happy and their lawyers will see you... These are just suggestions/petitions. If you come up with a new edition with such -or any other- additions, please keep me informed.

Hoodoo Herb and Root Magic

by SarahLightkeeper on Jun 3, 2008

This is a practical and valuable hands-on reference for the working practitioner. The book is organized alphabetically by herb or item along with uses for each. There are helpful tables and appendices in the back on Masculine Herbs, Feminine Herbs, Planetary Rulers, Elemental Rulers, Magical Intentions, Colors and their Magical Uses, an excellent Glossary of terms and their meanings, The Magical Properties of Oils, Folk Names Cross-Reference and an excellent Index. This is a must have book!

A must-have among herbalists!

by Tarra on May 8, 2008

This book has got to be one of the best books on magical herbalism ever written. It not only lists hundreds of herbs and their practical applications, but their magical uses and associations as well. It is one of the few books on herbalism that includes illustrations of the herbs listed, which is very helpful when trying to identify a specific herb in the wild. I have already recommended this book to several people and I will keep on recommending it to anyone interested in herbalism.
