Bonhoeffer presents a profoundly orthodox Christian theologian whose faith led him to boldly confront this great evil and uncovers never-before-revealed facts, including the story of his passionate romance. After discovering the fire of true faith in a Harlem church, Bonhoeffer returned to Germany and became one of the first to speak out against Hitler. As a double agent, he joined the plot to assassinate the Fhrer and was hanged in a concentration camp at age thirty-nine. Since his death, Bonhoeffer has grown to be one of the most fascinating, complex figures of the twentieth century.Read Less

Superbly Written Biography
Because of Eric Metaxas' diligence in research and excellence in writing, this book is on my short list of favorites. Not being a history buff, I didn't expect to eagerly devour this story; I was amazed at the excitement with which I stuck with it from start to finish. Bonhoeffer is now the "person from past or present whom I would most like to meet."

Having spent my childhood fearing the outcome of the 2nd world war, I found this biography fascinating and thrilling to hear about how anti Nazi Germans, and particularly D. Bonhoeffer endured the ravages within their country. I had heard much about Bonhoeffer and had read several of his books, but I had little knowledge of all he had to experience before he was killed. Thank You!
