Powerful and Disturbing

by Karen G on May 24, 2012

What an amazing woman! She writes of her life journey from African mud hut to a life in America as a British millionaire's wife. A powerful and well articulated woman willing to defy her culture's limiting role for women. I admire Aayan Hirsi Ali. Her message is disburbing, terrifying and necessary. I await her next book. I purchased 5 additional copies to give to friends. I deeply recommend this book.

Everybody MUST read this book

by Aussie on Jul 10, 2011

I URGE everyone to read this book, and send copies to your Politicians so that they too can understand the plight of refugees and Muslims living in western society. This is the most insightful book I have read in a long time - it is engaging and horrifying telling the TRUE story of a Muslim woman growing up - a voice that us 'Infidels' (non Muslims) never get to hear nor understand, and that of a refugee adapting to life in western civilisation and the challenges that presents as she rejects her Muslim upbringing which opens her eyes to a life she only ever dreamt about. This is a story of an amazingly strong and determined woman who, despite all odds, tells her story of enlightenment - we owe her the respect and time to read her story (honestly I could not put this book down), as the Muslim community has issued a 'fatwa' against her for speaking out against her Muslim upbringing. As Oprah says - "When we know better, we do better", and this book is the opportunity for non-Muslims to understand the life of a Muslim woman and hopefully this will help change the world for the better. Lord knows we need peace.

In this book, Ayaan Hirsi Ali expands and builds on the groundwork of "Infidel." Her work is by far the best I have experienced to-date into understanding the arab and muslim world view, especially from a female perspective. Of course, its not the only school of thought, but hers is one of the only voices willing to reveal the true thoughts and feelings of a repressed group that is usually kept silent by tradition and threats of violence.

Islam Impeached

by djwood on Aug 5, 2010

A personal inside account of a culturally ingrained system of oppression and virtual enslavement of females, homicidal hatred of Jews, and all non Muslims, i.e. the "infidels", all justified by specific incitements of the Muslim bible, considered to be the word of Allah spoken through the 7th century desert warrior Mohamed. The account assails the complacency of the cultural relativists, who are more concerned with being politically correct than the with the lives of hundreds of millions of cloistered females, who are no more than the chattel of the honor, and sex obsessed males. Read and weep. Be afraid not complacent.
