First American Edition. 309 pp. 8vo, fine in original half mid blue morocco, backstrip with gilt dot banded raised bands, blue marbled boards and endpapers. Greene's own copy of this book. His American publisher presented to him one specially bound copy of each of those novels which they published for him.
A tragic country that Greene would have had to invent if it hadn't existed. Although he creates a brilliant story, sadly, the context was tailor-made for one of the twentieth century's finest writers. Somehow both engaged and detached.
