easy read, fun read, very simplified

by Mariella on Aug 5, 2010

The book is easy to read and keeps you attentive. May argues that the pill has been a tool for liberation of women, but also just part and parcel of women's liberation that was already in process. It's well written and seamless. However, this is only accomplished because her history is so simplified compared with the very complex cultural reception of the pill. I would have rathered that she delve into the complexities of how some have really affirmed and others really really rejected it, than her very simple white washing of how it has been "liked" and "disliked." Definitely NOT written for an audience who actually already knows the history of birth control. Disappointing that there's no mention of religion.
