Reviews of Thucydides: The Reinvention of History

Overall customer rating: 4.000

Nearly as good as it gets

by PubliusToo on Dec 24, 2009

I gave it a four-star rating (instead of five) only because I had not read Thucydides' original work first. It is hard to be objective reading a critique otherwise. That said, Thucydides wanted to write for the ages, knowing that what happened in Greece during The Great War, would happen again, and therefore the decisions and outcomes would inform future generations. Remarkable how correct Thucydides was, and also how the "corrections" from Kagan are also informative for us now, and would have been for previous generations. Interested in history, read this. Interested in political science, read this. Interested in sociology, read this. Interested in lots of things, read this! Good writing too.
