Description:New. Originally published in the early 1980s, Civilization...New. Originally published in the early 1980s, Civilization traces the social and economic history of the world from the Middle Ages to the Industrial Revolution, although his primary focus is Europe. Braudel skims over politics, wars, etc., in favor of examining life at the grass roots: food, drink, clothing, housing, town markets, money, credit, technology, the growth of towns and cities, and more. The history is fascinating and made even more interesting by period prints and drawings. NEW COPY, PAPERBACK EDITION, LITTLE WEAR. FAST SHIPPING FROM UK, PROMPT SERVICE, BUBBLE WRAP.
I have always found Professor Braudel's writing to be clear, concise and very well reasoned. This three volume set is both informative and very entertaining. I would recommend this book to anyone with any level of interest in how one of the most significant factors in today's economy developed.
Great illustrations, for one thing. And a good mix of a well constructed narrative and a wide scope of time and place covered. This is one of my favorite books of history, along with venture of islam by marshall hodgson, another excellent trilogy. Highly recommended.
