Little known Tragedy
Sultana is an amazing, and Horrifying book...I don't think any Civil war books I've read, (a lot) made my heart ache as this one did. One thing that made it so powerful is that the author follows several young Union Soldiers through the war, the Horrific Prison Camps...to the Ultimate tragedy of the Sultana; It's amazing that these young men kept written journals...thus giving us true and achingly sad records of their suffering, and the desperate, and doomed, hopes they cherished. A powerful book. If you ever feel life is cruel and unfair, and things are hard for you, read this book. I will never forget it, and have told many people about it. I think the art of writing letters, and keeping little journals is a great loss for our culture, (among many others) I still journal daily. Will never give it up.
