"The Hour" begins by offering American History on the light side as regards alcohol, the beverage; offers up blame on publishers and their cookbooks finding new ways to use liquor and wine; and then gets to an American studies observation of the importance of the cocktail hour, which for this author is 6pm. He credits Prohibition with bringing equality of drinking for women, together with men surreptitiously. Toward the end, he laments that history has not recorded who the inventor was of distillation.

Very good in good dust jacket. Gray linen covered boards with red publisher's fabric on spine. Gold desine (hand, martini, clock) on front board and gold print on spine (moderately rubbed, faded). Soiled and worn with a few small frays showing at the head and foot of spine. Otherwise the book is in very good condition throughout. The dust jacket is on the low side of good. There is heavy damage at the head and foot of the spine and the tips. Several pieces missing from these areas. Not price-clipped. Dust jacket is now in mylar.
