The author, Robert Louis Stevenson (1850-1894), born and educated in Edinburgh, was both a poet and a novelist. His adventure stories for children, "Kidnapped" and "Treasure Island" are regarded as classics as is his novel for adults "The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde".
