Good in Poor jacket. Signed by Author(s) 1st Printing. pp. 508. SIGNED by Smith in year of publication; presumed first edition hardcover (1929, printing not stated). Jacket in pieces; front and back panel are intact but edgeworn; spine portion and back inside flap are missing; parts are held together by new archival sleeve (fully removable). Accompanying image is of actual copy for sale. Binding solid, text unmarked; pages have ripple, light dampstain at tail edge near spine. Covers have some faint soiling, short closed nick at tail of spine. Inscribed on half-title page: "To the Mergentheims [sp? ], who have sumptuously revived log cabin days. / Henry Justin Smith / September, 1929." NOT a former library book. Good- No Jacket. Signed by both of the authors, in the year of publication, on the half-title page. 1929, First Edition, 508 pp. Hardcover, 8vo., maroon cloth. Good-copy, no dust jacket. Spine sunned; light wear to cloth at corners and spine ends; silver titles starting to fade. Ad for the book mounted on front pastedown. There is a tidemark along the bottom margin of the pages, and the pages are waved in that area. Uncommon title. Lewis and Smith were editors of the Chicago Daily News, and Lewis is probably best remembered as a recipient of a house designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. Signed.
Reader copy; Collectible. Probable First Edition (not stated) published in 1929 by Harcourt, Brace, a 508-page (maroon with silver cover-lettering) hardcover book with a severely-worn spine (no jacket), lightly-tan text and endpapers, and the original owner's name stamped on the fly-sheet, otherwise, apparently-clean, unmarked, and with a lengthy note to the former owner written and SIGNED by the author, this is a nice reading and/or collectible copy.
