For seventeen-year-old Janie, getting sucked into other people's dreams at any given moment is getting tired. Especially the falling dreams, and the standing-in-front-of-the-class-naked ones. But then there are the nightmares, the ones that chill her to the bone...like the one where she is in a strange house...in a dirty kitchen...and a sinister monster that edges ever closer. This is the nightmare that she keeps falling into, the one where, for the first time, Janie is more than a witness to someone else's twisted psyche. She is a participant...

this is one of my favorite books . janie goes through some very hard times and getting sucked into peoples dreams only make it harder . she meets cabel who ALSO has it very hard at home and takes responsibility for janie when she blacks out in school . janie and cabel belong to each other .

Lisa McMann is a genius!
I love this series and can't wait for the 3rd! I remember when I first heard about this book and I was stunned by the creative subject. The idea of someone being able to experience other people's dreams is astonishingly intriguing! I love Cabel!! He is so hot and I think the main character has some issues...well, so does Cabel, but I love them both together. Cabel was a cool character (i love geeks and nerds!).
I read both books twice because they were so good. Of course, the dreams that Lisa McMann created for Janie are spectacular. They are horrifying ones and then really sweet ones. I love dreams in general and I think dreams are important.
"Don't dream and drive." Lisa McMann
I agree Lisa! It's a dangerous thing!

I finished the book in one night and loved it! I feel in love with the character Cabel right from the beginning. The only thing was that I thought the plot would be totally different because of what the synopsis said. I still liked this other plot though, just thought there could have been something more but I would most definitely reccommend this to a friend and I can not wait until the sequel comes out!
Publishers Weekly, 2008-03-31 The trick to getting hooked on this highly satisfying first novel is to look past its disjointed opening. The initial chapters consist of flashbacks into which are woven a series of repetitive scenes wherein Janie Hannagan is unwillingly sucked into others' dreams and nightmares, and suffers debilitating side effects. But as soon as McMann establishes Janie's strange skill, she throws just the right teen-centric ingredients into the story to propel it forward and grab readers. Tough and strong Janie, now 17, seems totally independent, charting a future that will lead away from her welfare mother's alcoholism. Her turbulent relationship with Cabel, the unwashed stoner boy-turned-handsome, pulsates with sexual tension--problematized by Janie's knowledge of his insistent dreams about killing a man. But then Cabel learns to communicate his desires to Janie through lucid dreaming at just about the same time that Janie finds out that she can influence the dreams she enters. The plot twists keep coming, even if one or two are shopworn, and the writing has a Caroline Cooney--like snap that's hard to resist. Ages 14-up. (Mar.) Copyright 2008 Reed Business Information.
