I am an avid Nora Roberts fan and I saw a new side of her with this novel! The spookiness and evil in this story was reminiscent of a Stephen King novel and still included romance and humor that had me laughing out loud more than any other Nora Roberts novel. I love how Nora Roberts can take a very similiar story line and put a new twist on it everytime, pulling us into every book. I absolutely love this novel and the series has become my favorite yet.

BLOOD BROTHERS IS THE 1ST BOOK OF 3. THE 2ND BOOK IS THE HOLLOW, AND THE 3RD BOOK IN THIS SERIES IS PAGAN STONE WHICH COMES OUT IN DECEMBER 2008. THIS BOOK WAS LARGE PRINT WHICH MADE THE READING EASIER FOR ME. THE STORY STARTS WITH THIS BOOK AND CONTINUES IN THE NEXT ONE. THE STORY WILL NOT END UNTIL THE 3RD BOOK. THIS BOOK IS WELL WRITTEN AND A GOOD READ.

This story was fantastic. This is the first in a series of 3 books that Robert's will write about the mystical place called Hawkins Hollow. While the full story is touched upon, this is really about Cal's part. Each of the main characters (Cal, Fox & Gage) will have a book it appears. Each will find his counterpart in his portion of the trilogy to aid in a quest to save a town and it's people from a darkness from centuries ago. A darkness the boys (at the age of 10) inadvertently set free to roam. This story is how Cal meets the female half of his whole and the person who can aid him in his quest in this the final showdown with the darness that shall take place in the coming Summer (July). This particular story tells Cal's story of the incident at age 10, touches on his current life and how the woman comes to be a part of the quest. During the book, we will meet Fox, Gage and the two other women who are their halves (to be told in the next two books) and the story is told in bits and pieces as they all come to work together as it is realized what they must do and why it is them who must do it. Cal's story is 1987 and 2008. The sequel will be Fox's story and it starts in 1994 and then will move to 2008 (after all, they are all in Cal's book in 2008). It is likely (but I cannot say for sure) that Gage's story will be the 2001 & 2008 portions that will climax with the final battle that is touched upon in this book when the 6 wander in the woods at the end of this book. I loved the book. The story unfolds and one can picture each distinct person in the book - the boys at age 10 seem clear and as men of 30 nearing the final showdown. The sign of seven is really thoughfully brought out. The boys share a common birthday 7/7/77. They free the spirit on their 10th birthday. For 7 days the town is mass hysteria. The events change in manner and scope but every 7 years the same type of events occur - only growing stronger. My only disappointment in the book is that I read it at all. And ONLY because I wish to be able to read the other two immediately following. Fox's story is not due out for another 3 months and I imagine Gage's will not be out until late 2008 or in 2009. That is MUCH too LONG to wait to finish this series. This is a great book - one recommended for purchase and keeping for another read - perhaps right before the second installment is issued in May 2008.

This is actually the first Nora Roberts book I?ve read and know I?ve got to read more. Blood Brothers is full of everything you like to read about?..mystery, fear, passion, horror, and comradeship between three men who grew up knowing the secret and three women, strangers, being pulled into their secret world. Great characters. This is the first of a seven book trilogy and I can?t wait for the next one to come out.
Publishers Weekly, 2007-10-29 After three boys accidentally awaken an ancient evil near their small Maryland town, the tight-knit community finds itself lost to a Stephen King-style plague of madness and destruction for a week every seven years. Twenty-one years later, those three boys, now grown, are hoping to find a way to stop the evil before its third return, which may mean the end of the town; they don't know much about the "anomalies," but they do know that "[e]very time it gets stronger." This time, the town is graced by author Quinn Black, eager to document the paranormal mystery. When two more women arrive-one an associate of Quinn's, the other led to town by strange visions-the circle of six decide to face the oncoming apocalypse together. Hyperprolific bestseller Roberts frontloads her story with drama and endearing characters (especially in Quinn and bowling alley owner Caleb Hawkins), but an abundance of exposition and domestic concerns (protagonists decorate a house, trade banter and pair off predictably) slow the plot significantly. Though future volumes are sure to pick up, this trilogy kickoff suffers from a dearth of twists and little payoff; fans of the brisk, colorful Roberts style will enjoy the ride, though probably not as much as they'd expect.
