Preminger required much from others AND himself

by 123shulze on Dec 13, 2007

Mr. Preminger's ambition knew no boundaries. He arrived in this country in 1935 with a history of great success behind him in Austria. He didn't spend time lamenting the political fortunes that caused him to flee Europe, but rather embraced the possibilities in America and how he could realize even greater success here. He worked with people most of us have only seen on the silver screen and was never intimidated in any circumstance. I was fascinated with "behind the scenes" looks at Sidney Poitier, Marilyn Monroe and Jacquelyn Bouvier Kennedy. It would have been daunting, as well as rewarding, to have been his employee, wife, child, friend, etc. The book never dragged because Mr. Preminger's life leapt from one project to another. Since completing the book, I've wanted to view his films again, although some I'll be watching for the first time.
