Very Good. No Jacket. 8vo-over 7¾"-9¾" tall. Green cloth covered boards with gilt behind brown lettering, spine and corners are bumped and show wear. Previous owner has written in front inside cover (Presented by Mrs. Mary Cougdon-1918). Paper of inside front and back spine are torn, but book is tight and clean, paper has browned with age. This book contains full-page portraits of: Henry William Blair-Dr. William Hargreaves-Willim Windom-Canon Wilberforce-A. H. Colquitt-Daniel Dorchester-N. S. Davis-Dr. I. K. Funk-J. N. Stears-Georege C. Haddock-Roderick Dhu Gambrell and 50 other leaders of the temperance movement. It has a map of New York City and a showing the location of 9000 saloons in the city in 1886. This is a large book 583 pages the photos are not numbered.

Blair (1834-1920) was a United States Representative and Senator from New Hampshire who in 1876 introduced the first prohibition amendment to Congress. Quarto. Original green cloth binding, with pictorial gilt and brown stamping. Typical mild browning to the contents, with a crease to the top corner of p.513-4. Period ink inscription to the verso of the dedication page. It appears the first signature was neatly sewn back in place. Mild wear to the corners and tips, with a light bump to the fore-edge of the rear board; otherwise very good and quite attractive.
