What a fascinating look at a vanished lifestyle. The early chapters of the book that take place in the life of Cairo's Jewish population, contrasts starkly with the dislocation and displacement of this family's life in America. I am often drawn to books that detail these forced evacuations from comfort and feedom to the cultural deprivation of a forced Exodus. The character of the father as seen by his daughter is rich in detail. It is his failure to thrive out of his comfort zone, that makes this an eye-opening read.
I loved this book and will be giving it as a gift to a friend of mine whose life it so well mirrors.
