One might only wonder from time to time what is behind the mysterious veil called
Polygamy. This is the journey Susan was on simply because she was taught to
do what seemed so right in God's eyes. Her journey takes her at high speed where she finds herself struggling in a "fake marriage", pregnancy after pregnancy and yearning to be loved by one man. Being his fifth wife, she would come to the realization that she would be one of seven of his wives. Fathering five children with Susan by the time she is 25, the reader is numbed by this man's spiritual perspective of God. He was never verbally abusive to her yet at the same time it becomes immediately clear when she "married" at age 15 to Verlan who is 39 that she is emotionally and physically abandoned. The poverty and hardships that go hand-in-hand are more than one can hardly stand to see Susan endure, yet the writer herself keeps you drawn to her and you hang on as she does. She is a true triumph in soul and spirit . She seeks out truth and finds it. You come away wanting every woman alive to read this book. You will cry your eyes out for her but she survives and you will too. Wonder no more.
