Not as advertised; approach with skepticism.

by Ana M on Mar 13, 2011

I decided to keep an open mind when I was reading this book. Unlike some, I was not especially shocked or amazed by the contents, nor was I left "speechless and spellbound" like the preliminary advertising told me I'd be. Indeed, the 1200 page book could be easily shortened into less than a third of its current length if the repetition were edited out. For example, it is hardly an "inside secret" to know that the world's masses are so busy and distracted by the demands of keeping up with daily survival, and meeting a completely arbitrary standard of living, that they will never truly improve their minds and think about how they are being manipulated by the government (regardless of party affiliation), the media, politicians and people who "parasitically live by draining the effectiveness, happiness and prosperity of others." Anyone who has thought for five minutes about the structure of our global economy and political systems would tell you the same thing. In preliminary advertising for the book, the publisher tells prospective buyers that the "inside secrets" include a "10-second miracle" that will allow the reader to "attract money and success, the most deep romantic love, the most loyal friendships, effortlessly . . . you could apply this highly-guarded secret in less than 10 seconds." Exactly what this highly guarded secret is and how the reader goes about applying it are never explained in this book. The preliminary advertising also states that, after acquiring this book and reading all 1200 pages from beginning to end, one will win every time one gambles and learn how to win at lotteries, racing, etc. This is not luck, one is quickly informed, for there is no such thing. The ability to win at games of chance no matter what is actually the power of the "inside secrets" working for you, the reader. But again, there is no indication of what the power is or how you can achieve it and apply it anywhere in the book. So if you were hoping to find out how you could finally live the good life -- or at least learn something that would help you make enough money to stop having to choose between buying food or your prescription medications -- skip this book because it will do you no good whatsoever. OK, so now we know what we don't get. Which begs the question: this tome is 1200 pages long, so there must be something in there. What "inside secrets" *do* we get? True, free, unregulated capitalism, the Neo-Tech authors state, is the only way to achieve real freedom, wealth and contentment. This is possible for anyone, regardless of background, religion, age, socio-economic status, race, color or creed. All you need to do is become a "value producer" and create "things of value to society." How you determine what these things of value are and come up with the time, start-up money and resources to create them is your problem. Being handicapped, mentally challenged or disabled is no excuse either. Here in a nutshell are the other so-called "inside secrets:" There is no god besides your subconscious right brain, and Ayn Rand is its prophet. If you ever thought you heard a god talking to you, or something called premonition, or a "sign," it's just your right brain, unless you're schizophrenic (in which case your left brain is in on the act too). Any real or imagined external authority, including religion and psychotherapy, is doomed to fail because ultimately, the only way you're going to become healthy, wealthy and wise is through self-responsibility. Big business, good. Taxes, bad. Aristotle, good. Plato, bad. Unregulated capitalism, very good. Government, very bad. Leona Helmsley, good. FDR, bad. Do your job better than anyone else ever could by learning and implementing effective time management techniques: set aside blocks of time for each of your tasks, i.e., devote an hour to answering all emails, another hour to writing letters, another for phone calls, etc. Bear in mind that this will only get you so far: if you really want to achieve your full and true potential, you must start your own business and become one of the fittest value producers to really survive and prosper. As stated above, the Neo-Tech authors don't tell you where you get the start-up money to finance this venture or how to pay the bills while you do so; their only advice is to "keep your current job while you build your business." Oooh, yes, there's a big inside secret: don't give up your day job and be sufficiently good at it to avoid getting fired. Like, awesome, dude. Find a consenting partner or partners of legal age and have sex. Have lots and lots of sex. Do not feel guilty about it as it is a perfectly normal, healthy activity. You should stay away from pornography and other forms of entertainment that are exploitative and degrading, though. Limiting yourself to one partner, like in marriage, would be the ideal, but if you really can't handle that it's OK since it obviously interferes with expressing your true will (Aleister Crowley fans are smiling now). However, if you're straight, do take the proper precautions and avoid having children since they will diminish your individual potential for happiness, career success and wealth. In case you were wondering, pedophilia is always wrong. Bestiality gets a pass, though: animals have no consciousness, intelligence or rights in the Neo-Tech world, and if they go extinct, some other species will come along to take their place, so don't worry about it. It's OK to pollute and use up all of Planet Neo-Tech's non-renewable resources too, since the EPA is an evil agency that's only out to cheat the value producers out of their livelihoods. All organized religions, astrology, and most New Age practices are nothing but a hoax designed to waste your money and time. Meditation and Tarot cards are OK because you use these to tap into the power of your right brain. Most of the great religious hoaxes of the past 2000+ years has been perpetrated to limit, even destroy, individual potential and the equality of women (personally speaking, I find this easy to believe). The message of the Bible in general and Jesus Christ in particular have been distorted by fundamentalists, evangelicals and right-wing nutcases. Other religions are no better, but Christianity and Islam are really bad because they give people a false belief in an afterlife, which allows them to be tricked into succumbing to the wills of politico-religious leaders and prevents their rising up against oppressive circumstances and regimes. The next Great War will not take place between nations or religions, but between the Neocheaters (who are more or less everyone except the Neo-Tech thinkers) and Neo-Tech thinkers, who can have biological immortality and achieve unlimited wealth, prosperity and happiness. They can read minds. They can see the future. They can even create galaxies. How do they do it? Because they are the real gods, and you could be a god too if only you'd wake up, shake the cobwebs out of your right brain and adopt the Neo-Tech philosophy. How does one adopt the Neo-Tech philosophy? Many long hours and 1200 pages later, you won't have a clue. You'll be told over and over again that Neo-Tech is the way to go, but nowhere in these 1200 pages is there a systematic method to follow. There are many tables and charts to show what Neo-Tech isn't ... but one never does find out exactly what it is. Also, large portions of this book deteriorate into embittered rants with few or no logical, coherent facts and debate to support the contentions. Bottom line: You're better off without this waste of time and money.
