All good things must come to an end, Constant Reader, and not even Stephen King can make a story that goes on forever. The tale of Roland Deschain's relentless quest for the Dark Tower has, the author fears, sorely tried the patience of those who have followed it from its earliest chapters. But attend to it a while longer, if it pleases you, for this volume is the last, and often the last things are best.Roland's ka-tet remains intact, though scattered over wheres and whens. Susannah-Mia has been carried from the Dixie Pig ... Show more

The King is King, Long write the King!!

by richie35447 on Jul 2, 2009

The Dark Tower VII.........the ending of the seemingly, at times, endless epic tale of Roland, Jake, Eddie, Susanna, Oy and the many they encounter on the quest for the Dark Tower. A simile for life itself, and postulates on the hereafter, and the nature of deity. The way lives intertwine throughout the endless cosmos, and the Wheel that is Ka. This book charges forward with the speed and power of a juggernaut unleashed upon the landscape, and there is no putting it down until it arrives, panting, wheezing, and breathless at its ultimate, and only possible ending. King should be strung up for crafting such a perfect tale, and inescapable ending. This book will have you blubbering like a baby on one page over what may just be the most heart rending, saddest scene ever put to page, and after about a three page respite, he DOES IT TO YOU AGAIN!!!!!!! I had sometimes had designs to become an author, but I now see that all that can be written has been written, and so much better than mere mortals can do it.........King is King, long live the King! I cannot, obviously, say enough in praise for this book,, and the entire series of seven books. Thank God I didn't discover these books until all of them had been written......I don't think I could have weathered the multi-year storm that raged between books 3 and the rest of the series. Buy them all..........Read them all.............Recommend them all................and then, READ THEM ALL AGAIN!!!!!!!!!!

the dark tower

For everyone awaiting the conclusion of this epic series---this book was definitely worth the wait. As usual Stephen King's characters are so well written, they almost seem like people you've met and know. And, as is usual with Sai King, ther's heartache in this book but triumph as well. I highly recommend this book (but read the other six in the series first!) Find yourself falling into the world of nineteen and then say a little thank you to Mr. King for allowing all of his readers into this engrossing, lyrical, sad, hopeful and ultimately fulfilling world.

ok but a rather bland end to the series

by volt on Apr 3, 2007

Was hoping for more, got a bit long winded in this final effort. Not unlike King to have a great buildup with a tepid payoff

End of the series... what did you think?

I bought and read the 7th book hot off the presses 5 years back. Certified Dark Tower junkie here =) I was stunned, but think the ending was perfect. Roland had so many chances to redeem himself, not to necessarily cry off the Tower, but to redeem his character and his morals and ethics, and he ... Read more
