By Writ of Summons, dated 23rd June, 1295, 23 Edward I. lineage. Of this ancient family, which assumed the surname of Kyme, from a fair lordship, the principal place of their residence, in Kesteven, in the county of Lincoln, the first mentioned is SIMON DE KYME, (the son of William, ) who founded, temp. Stephen, the Pmory of Bolinton, in Lincolnshire. This Simon m. Roese, daughter of Robert Dapifer, (that is Steward, to Gilbert dc Gant, Earl of Lincoln, ) which lady was commonly called Roese de Bulinton. He was s. by his son, PHILIP DE KYME, who was constituted sheriff of Lincolnshire in the 14th of Henry IL, and was one of the barons in the great council held at London in the year 1177. where he was a subscribing witness to the instrument of arbitration there made by King Henry II., for according the difference betwixt Alfonso, king of Castile, and Sanctiua, king of Navarre. This feudal lord was the founder of the priory of Kyme, and he granted twenty acres of band to the canons and nuns at Bolinton, for supporting the charge of their garments. He was steward to Gilbert de Gant, Earl of Lincoln, and was #. at his decease by his son, SIMON DE KYME, who, in theSUtof Henry II., was indebted to the crown in the sum of forty marks, as a fine for not disclaiming his right to certain lands after he had lost them upon a trial by battel. In the 6th of Edward I. he paid a hundred marks to be excused serving in Normandy, and in the Rth of the same reign he was sheriff of Lincolnshire. In the reign of John he took up arms with the barons, and was excommunicated by the pope, when his lands were all seized, and transferred to Geoffry NevilL He subsequently negotiated for their restoration, but died before any thing effectual in the matter.Hide synopsis
