Thirteen-year-old Jonah has always known that he was adopted, and he's never thought it was any big deal. Then he and a new friend, Chip, who's also adoped, begin receiving mysterious letters. The first one says, "You are one of the missing." The second one says, "Beware! They're coming back to get you." Jonah, Chip, and Jonah's sister, Katherine, are plunged into a mystery that involves the FBI, a vast smuggling operation, an airplane that appeared out of nowhere -- and people who seem to appear and disappear at will. The kids discover they are caught in a battle between two opposing forces that want very different things for Jonah and Chip's lives. Do Jonah and Chip have any choice in the matter? And what should they choose when both alternatives are horrifying? With "Found," Margaret Peterson Haddix begins a new series that promises to be every bit as suspenseful as her "Shadow Children" series -- which has sold more than 41/2 million copies -- and proves her, once again, to be a master of the page-turner.

Found FOUND, a wonderful children's mystery series
Margaret Peterson Haddix has done it again: written an exciting book for children in the beginning of a series w/ the book FOUND. Elementary school librarians voted it a contestant for the 15 nominated books on the Sunshine State Young Readers Awards book list for 2009-10 in the state of Florida. The first two pages grab your attention as a plane w/ unusual company name lands w/o showing up on the radar. The attendant boards the plane to find that it has no pilots & only babies in the seats. The scene changes as two boys meet in the neighborhood & become friends. Though only one is adopted, both receive an anonemous letter in the mail stating "You are one of the missing." In their attempts to find out what the letters mean, the other child finds out that he, too, was adopted. Along w/ the secret papers of his adoption, there is a name & phone # of an FBI agent who may have some answers as to where he came from, but that lead them on an exciting adventure. Although written for children ages 9-12, this book is intriguing & a good read!

I purchased this book for my daughter to complete the required summer reading for entering 6th grade. I chose to read it to find out if it was truely a good book. Wow! It was great! I read it in 3 days, would have completed in 1 if I had the time to. I can't wait to read the next book in the series...She is reading it now (not as quickly).
