Cherry-Garrard, who accompanied Robert Falcon Scott to the Antarctic on the explorer's doomed quest for the South Pole, recounts the unforgettable journey across forbidding, inhospitable terrain. He was also a member of the search party that ultimately discovered Scott's frozen body along with his last notebook entries. With an introduction by the author, this tale of adventure stands out as a literary accomplishment as well as a classic of exploration.

Lots of infrormation

by Edwin R on Oct 25, 2011

This book has far more information on this expedition Than I have seen in any other book. Very readable. Lots of first hand anecdotes and dramas from one who was there.

In a Class of Its Own

by Welly on Jan 10, 2008

There is simply no better, true, story about what it means to explore. This is humanity at its best, challenged by inhuman conditions. And Cherry-Garrard is nothing less than the Boswell that this inspiring endeavor merited. His book makes real the words he applied to the meaning of the expedition: "To strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield."

Best Worst Ever

by dbum on Apr 10, 2007

If you are into adventure liturature, this book is for you. The Scott expedition was not a failure as some would believe simply because they didn't reach the South Pole first. Cherry-Garrard details the exploration and gathering of scientific knowledge that was done by the expedition in addition to the try to be the first at the pole. A wonderful book and a wonderful read for those that like expedition literature.
