Engrossing Ellizabethan period novel

by julieCS on May 6, 2010

Philippa Gregory's masterful grasp of the Elizabethan/Tudor period and her riveting storytelling is as evident here as in other books of hers that I have read. The main character is perhaps more sympathetic than in some other of her books, plus there's less sex and violence (well, it seems to have been a violent period!), so I found it a more wholesome read. I feel no desire to read it again, as I do some other books, but if you want an engrossing read and you like this period, you've got a good one here.

The Queen's Fool

by mawillia on Jun 12, 2009

The book is like most of Ms. Gregory's historical novels, her attention to detail is meticulous. The book is good - but I did not enjoy it as much as the Boleyn trilogy. It still makes for good reading.

Another good book, the kind you do not want to put down till your finished and then you are sorry when it is finished. Phillipa Gregory makes history come to life.

THE HEROINE HANNAH GREEN IS A SPANISH JEW IN HIDING FROM THE INQUISITION. WHEN IT IS DISCOVERED THAT SHE CAN SEE THE FUTURE, SHE IS PERSUADED TO USE IT FOR THE BENEFIT OF ROBERT DUDLEY AND BECOME A SPY IN MARY'S HOUSEHOLD. SHE BECOMES MARY'S FOOL AND CONFIDANT.
