A memoir of King's childhood, his early focus on writing to tell stories, his writing years and the moving account of how his need to write saved his life after a tragic accident.
I could have skipped the first 100-page autobio, though I learned some tnings, but what came after that was invaluable to me in its insights to King's ideas about good -- and bad -- writing. Would I recommend it to a friend? I already have, to a couple, who write -- and it was recommended to me by one of the greatest young writers in America.
Before reading this I don't think I actually realized how valuable a good edit can be. As a Stephen King fan, I had to learn from the creator of some of the most riveting fiction for over 35 years and I did! This book taught me when and why to make necessary changes and gives you personal glimpses into his life.
