Emotionally moving story of a family with tough issues through the eyes of an aging pet

One of the best.

I'm not into racing, and this book DOES talk a little about it, but in relationship to life. Let's face it, we all race through life and feel like it's out of control sometimes. Seeing this for a dog's eyes, a loyal friend, is so moving and thoughtful. I gave one copy away and ordered another... it's THAT good.

Sometimes you just need a dog's perspective.

by IRENE G on Dec 15, 2011

If you talk to your dog like he understands you, then this is a book for you. A little more racing references than I needed, but such a thought provoking book about the kinship of dogs.

A sublime popcorn read!

by Heidi H on May 19, 2011

I really enjoyed this book. It's not super difficult and is somewhat predictable at times, but the storytelling through the dog's POV is very well-executed. The dog's innocence and funny way of looking at the world will leave you chuckling and will help you soldier through the sad moments in the book. Enjoy!

Race cars and dogs...loving a daughter

...if any or all of those are important parts of your life, this is a book for you! Tech background just enough to add realism to the humor and drama Stein unfolds for our imaginations. Interesting, fun, heartbreaking, heartwarming! Highly recommend, and have given away no less than a half-dozen copies to friends. Oh, and the title has loaded meaning to any that have tried (racing in the rain!).

What other "dog books" would you recommend?

I'm not a die-hard dog lover, but I loved this book. It's a bit sentimental and predictable, but Enzo is such a real and delightful main character. I especially love when Stein delves into Enzo's imagination and emotional depth by way of one of his stuffed toy animals. I'll never look at a beloved dog ... Read more
