are you afraid of the boogyman?

by readersreader on Jul 25, 2008

The rock is really a bluff that has appeared in three other books by Coldsmith. It is a very spiritual place. Many are fearful of the spirits that are reported to dwell there. White Fox has gone to the rock for his vision quest. On the third day of his vision quest his spirit guide is revealed to him, a beaver, and he also gets the feeling that there is a very evil presence close by. With his vision quest completed he starts down the rock to return to his village when he sees a trail that he did not notice on his trip up the cliff. He takes the trail to see where it goes, and a thing jumps out at him and they both go over the edge of the cliff and fall into the water of the river below. The thing turns out to be a young woman, and while they both struggle in the water she almost kills him with her small knife. White Fox gets away from her with the aid of his spirit guide and returns home. He tells Looks Far, the medicine man what happened, and they decide he should go back to the young woman because she may be in great danger. The medicine man does not believe that the evil spirit that White Fox felt in his vision quest was her. This story is about what White Fox finds when he gets back to the rock, and the girl and the evil spirit.
