Dicey's song was an incredible book about estranged relationships and the healing thereof. Dicey's and her brothers and sister are abandoned by their mother and so wind up at their mother's mother's house, the grandmothers. The grandmother had been widowed for quite awhile when the children arrived, and having estranged her daughter, found a way to undo the damage she had done to her daughter by taking in and raising her daughter's children. The grandmother's love comes in the shape of responsibilities, chores, and overall family pitching in but in doing so imparts infinite wisdom to Dicey and siblings. Dicey also meets people in her mom's home town that knew her mother when she was young. Very well written with unique perspective on inter-family social situations.
