Good. Connecting readers with great books since 1972. Used books may not include companion materials, some shelf wear, may contain highlighting/notes, and may not include cd-rom or access codes. Customer service is our top priority!
Near Fine in J New jacket. 1st printing. Dust jacket in protective mylar Brodart. Square, solid, perfect spine, unread--what more could you ask for? When you receive this book, you'll feel as though you've received a rare gift from one of Scheherazade's fabled djinn! You MAY even cartwheel with glee! NOTE: VERY light evidence of handling to the page sides, and a few drops of water somehow touched the bottoms of the pages RIGHT at the spine, and created a small blue bleed of ink from the dark cloth (it appears to have been a printing flaw). There is no effect to the pages, no ripple, nothing like that.
Good in Good + jacket. 0374286515 568 pp. Originally written in Spanish. Translated by Helen R. Lane. Small indentation on upper edge of back cover. Owner's name written on flyleaf. Otherwise, very good condition. Some curling of dust jacket. This novel retells the story of the uprising in the Brazilian backlands that almost reversed the history of the continent. It is the story of an apocalyptic prophet and the state he created, Canudos, home to all the damned of the earth, prostitutes, bandits, beggars, and their like. [All books shipped within 24 hours, each order is packaged in a new box with bubble wrap, and always your satification is guaranteed]
Brilliant and fast paced. A book of great depth despite a simple story. The scope of this epic is remarkable. I couldn't wait to get to the end to find out what happened and I was very sorry when it was over.

A new view of Magic Realism
Vargas characters and descriptions are really incredible. The book takes you to the story of a revolution in far Brazil, but the characther psyche and their marvelous, even magic enviroment would give you a reading you won't forget.
