The ancient regime running the parish covertly demands that she prove herself as a leader. Her blunt manner, honed by eight years as an Army chaplain, is meeting with a chilly reception from some members of her congregation. Chief of Police Russ Van Alstyne, in particular, doesn't know what to make of her. When a newborn baby is abandoned and a ... Show more

Excellent first in series

by roberta on Mar 14, 2013

Julia Spencer-Fleming's initial offering in her romantic/suspense series promises a great read, and doesn't let one down. Russ Van Alstyne is chief of police in his home town, Millers Kill, in upstate New York. Clare Fergusson is the new Episcopal priest in town. He's married and faithful, she's a celibate cleric--he thinks. Their friendship grows as the mystery deepens. What to do, what to do? Read on to find out more.

Good Read

by kokopelli on Aug 25, 2011

This was my first exposure to Spencer-Fleming's work. I'll be looking for more. The protagonist has a unique blend of compassion and toughness.
