Great adult/youn adult book about a thirteen year old boy, only child growing up in the central African bush under the influence of Bantu, Bushmen, Heugenot French and British and South African Afrikaans peoples. The epic story ends in the sequel "A Far Off Place" Great use of religious and native influences in forming his character. His bond to his Ridgeback, Hintza, is a highlight of both books.
