In Boswell's "Life of Samuel Johnson", one of the towering figures of English literature is revealed with unparalleled immediacy and originality, in a biography to which we owe much of our knowledge of the man himself. Through a series of richly detailed anecdotes, Johnson emerges as a sociable figure, vigorously engaging and fencing with great contemporaries such as Garrick, Goldsmith, Burney and Burke, and of course with Boswell himself. Yet anxieties and obsessions also darkened Johnson's private hours, and Boswell's ... Show more

Amazing value

by Boojieboy on Jun 10, 2010

Beautiful Everyman Library edition. Green cloth-bound octavo size with sewn-in signature binding. Page count of 1000+ permits type-face large enough for easy reading. For a book selling at around $20, it's an amazing value.

A great biography

by ghmus7 on May 20, 2008

Certainly one of the greatest biographies in literary history. Boswell paint a totally comprehensive portrait to Samula Johnson, one of the most brilliant and erudite whe ever lived. However, the work is not just illuminating but also very funny, sometime surprizing and also facinating.
