Even though rich in detail the narrative often flows with a smoothness and anticipatory flavor that reads like a novel.

Castles of Steel

Another typical Robert K.Massie tour de force. Gives fascinating vignettes of all the main protagonists. Full of interesting detail, well researched and altogether a rivetting read. I heartily recommend this work of history.
