Deeply Insightful

by Matthew on Jan 31, 2008

In this book, Shelby Steele, who is himself black, discusses how white American society lost its moral authority in the wake of the civil rights movement. He talks about the consequences as many blacks have gained "power" by ceding responsibility for their progression to whites; liberal whites, eager to regain moral authority, have cheerfully taken responsibility not only from them, but from blacks in general. Steele relates many stories from his own life, both as a child in the age of segregation and as an adult in the age of white guilt. Truly an excellent book.
