Gilbert

Excellent history...

by Gilbert on Jan 24, 2013

Precisely because we have advanced so far in health and its care is sufficient reason to be fully aware of its deathly past. There is no other way to appreciate what we have now though there remain giant steps to take.

And you thought the 20th Century was bad

by Mikmaq on Jun 17, 2007

This is a very readable history of the worst plague in human history. Kelly vividly portrays the march of death across the land in the voices of that time. The descriptions of squalor and filth, and of the mounting death tolls defy our imagination. The acts of heroism and of cruel abandonment are many. The roll of greed and religion makes one ill. I found the explanation as to how and why the plague reached the proportions that it did very interesting. After reading this book reflect on how you would react if placed in similar circumstances.
