In order to meet these objectives, the authors emphasis is placed on sound physical arguments and discussions of everyday experiences and observations. At the same time, students are motivated through practical examples that demonstrate the role of physics in other disciplines. COLLEGE PHYSICS, Technology Version offers a new complete learning system for the algebra-trig based physics course. The seamless integration of CD-ROM, workbook, and Web site makes it easier for professors and students to incorporate technology-based content into their lectures and studies. The Technology Version of College Physics, Fifth edition consists of: the paperback textbook, the Saunders CORE CONCEPTS IN COLLEGE PHYSICS CD-ROM, the Workbook to accompany the Saunders CORE CONCEPTS IN COLLEGE PHYSICS CD-ROM, and a single CD-ROM containing the textbook version of INTERACTIVE PHYSICST software (developed by MSC Working Knowledge), as well as simulation files by Raymond A. Serway that run on this software. Instructors interested in technology-based education should also consider the three options for on-line homework-CAPA (Computer-assisted Personalized Approach), WebAssign, and University of Texas homework delivery systems.Hide synopsis

The fourth edition continues the standard of excellence with up-to-the-minute revisions, vibrant photography and illustrations, detailed problem-solving strategies, superb examples and problems, and an unsurpassed ancillary package complete with multimedia support. The authors masterfully achieve their primary objective which is to present the fundamentals of physics in an engaging style geared to a one-year course in introductory/general physics. They also succeed in strengthening students' understanding of concepts through numerous, vivid real-world applications and exceptional problem solving skill-building exercises. The text is especially well-suited to biology and health profession students including many life science applications and related problems, as well as to students in other disciplines including physics. Features: * A classroom-proven design makes strategic use of color in illustrations to enhance communications of concepts. Throughout the text, consistent color-coding works as a dynamic pedagogic tool to support learning. Over 300 color photographs with detailed captions reinforce the real-world applications of physics. * Systematic presentation of problem-solving strategies builds students' confidence in the problem-solving process. More than 300 outstanding worked examples have received praise from educators across the nation for making "problem-solvers" out of students. Reasoning statements are included in many of the worked examples to guide students' thinking. * "Physics in Action" boxes, color photos of fascinating demonstrations and phenomena with detailed explanations, bring the lab into the classroom and are ideal discussion starters motivating students to examine and understand physics. New to this edition: * The authors have streamlined topic presentation keeping pace with current teaching trends and better accomodating two-semester courses. To improve continuity and streamline information, some topics have been moved from the main text body to special mini-chapters called "For Further Study". * Of the 30% new end-of-chapter problems, special emphasis has been placed on adding new intermediate-level problems providing a superb balance of easy/medium/challenging problems. * Over 150 new conceptual questions have been added to end-of-chapter material. Three to five conceptual questions per chapter have fully worked out reasoning and answer statements and precede the additional questions. * Material from the highly acclaimed Interactive Physics II software program has been integrated into the text and package. A problem set on computer disks containing about 100 physics simulations turns a computer into a complete motion laboratory letting students "see physics happening." The simulations in the problem set are keyed to selected worked examples and end-of-chapter problems in the text, and may be altered to create new problems and experiments. * Screen images of physics simulations from the accompanying problem set disks are reproduced in several color figures throughout the text provideing students with an excellent representation of the Interactive Physics II program capabilities. * Life Science applications, marked for easy identification with a special life sceince icon, have been highlighted in special biological essays and examples, enhancing the text's proven non-majors appeal. * The Pocket Guide is a 5 x 7 paperback synopsis of the textbook that gives students the essentials in a readily-grasped, abbreviated form they can scan to recap material after detailed study in the main text or to review before tests.Hide

I ordered this text book for my high school age son. I was under the impression when I ordered the book that it included the CD that originally came with the textbook, but when I received the order it was not included. When I went back and read the description I did not find a mention of the CD either ...
